Hubert the Camel

To those of you who have seen the ad and have asked "Isn't it touch a camel on the face and not touch a camel in the face?" The answer is yes. As long as the camel doesn't take your entire hand in its mouth, you are touching a camel on the face. However, as you can see in the picture, Hubert the camel is two seconds away from putting my entire hand into his mouth to get the treat I'm holding. So I've both touched a camel on its face and in its face. Now on to the story.

The story of the camel is one of unrequited love. When I went to visit my brothers in Germany, we stopped by the zoo we used to frequent as children. When we entered the zoo, a camel sprinted towards us from the other end of its enclosure and fell deeply and hopelessly in love with my brother.

As we followed the trail further into the zoo, Hubert the Camel followed my brother as closely as he could. If my brother ventured too closely to the fence, Hubert would nibble at his hair and face.

Hubert remained our companion until the path moved away from his large enclosure. We fed him some of the animal feed available to guests, petted him, and parted ways.

Hubert stayed and waited for us to come back and then followed my brother all the way back to the exit. He didn't really care too much about the rest of us.
