Born to an American mother and Belgian father in Germany, Mamie moved to the United States for high school, university, and graduate school, earning a BFA and MFA in writing and literature. She continued on to Korea and Japan to teach for several years before returning to Germany. While working in Germany, she earned a degree in Early Years education. During Covid, Mamie returned to the United States to be closer to her family. Since returning to the United States, she has published several articles in magazines and newspapers.

Mamie specializes in humorous travel stories and magical realism. The humorous travel stories come from her time abroad in which she had many misadventures, such as the time she accidentally joined a cult and the time she was abducted by a group of French senior citizens to break into a restricted area of a historical site.

Mamie's magical realism is inspired by the many fairytale locations she visited as a child and the time she spent with her Belgian grandmother, who, despite living through two world wars, was still full of humor and stories.
